Dear Psychology Major Graduates,

I want to offer a heartfelt congratulations to you all on your graduation.  I know I speak on behalf of the rest of the faculty and staff in our department when I say that we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.  This is a significant accomplishment that you should take great pride and personal satisfaction in!

I’m sure for most of you these years at Buffalo State College have flown by but will be something you remember forever.  Even though I’m one of those old guys who yells at birds to get off his lawn, I can still remember that feeling of finally finishing that Bachelor’s degree.  That is yours forever.  Own it…...and allow that reality to sink in.  You are a college graduate!  And even though your senior year may not have happened the way you had always imagined (honestly, who could have ever anticipated anything remotely like these recent events?), I hope that what you’ve learned over these past few years has made you more prepared for that “next level” – which is both exciting and scary at the same time.

For some that path leads to graduate school, while for others it leads directly to a career.  Whatever that might be for you, I wish you all the best and continued success.  But maybe more importantly I hope that you find a way to “make a difference” in whatever you choose to do…..to take what you’ve learned and the sum of all of your experiences in college and be a mechanism for positive change in your communities.  Isn’t that why most of us go into Psychology in the first place…..to “help people”…..to impact those around us?  As C.S. Lewis once said “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending”.  Take a look at where you are now – at what you’ve accomplished so far.  Now this is your chance to use that to write an amazing future!  I wish you all the best as you start the next chapters in your life!

Congratulations from all of us!

Dr. Karuza:  Congratulations to all you graduating seniors.  For those of you who were taking History and Systems this Spring semester with me, my hat is off to you…talk about grace under pressure.  What a long, strange trip it’s been.  Good luck, be safe, be smart, and be healthy.

Dr. MacLean:  Congratulations, Psychology Graduates of 2020!  Even a pandemic could not keep you from graduating.  Impressive!  It has been a pleasure working with you and I wish you continued success in the coming years.

Prof. Harvey:  Congratulations psychology graduates!  Best wishes for the road ahead.

Dr. O'Quin:  To the class of 2020: The lack of a physical graduation ceremony makes it harder to create the memories that culminate your college experience. However, you will go on to create new memories within your own story, because Buffalo State graduates rise and make the most of what is dealt to them. All your professors hope you will emerge from this difficult time with your health and your sense of humor intact. Staying positive requires active effort, and humor can help you weather many of life’s storms. You carry our best wishes with you.

Dr. Schuetze:  Congratulations, graduates!  I am so happy for you and wish that I could congratulate you and recognize your achievements in person.  I wish for you a bright future full of all of the best things that life can offer.

Dr. McKay:  I could not be more proud of our graduating seniors. You have survived the papers of Research Methods and Senior Seminar, you have survived the biological psychology requirement, you have survived the high standards of the Psychology Department. I am sure that you will each make a positive mark in this world!

Dr. Kamper-DeMarco: Congratulations to our 2020 graduating psychology students! You all have worked so hard and faced a lot of challenges this semester but you made it We can't wait to see what you'll do next!

Dr. Norvilitis:  I have been amazed and impressed by the strength and resilience you have shown during this difficult time.  I am excited to see where you go next.  Congratulations on your graduation!

Dr. Foraker:  Congratulations, class of 2020 Psychology graduates! This achievement is so well deserved – it reflects your extensive knowledge of human thought and behavior, your perseverance, and for sure, your resilience. Keep opening the doors in front of you, step just outside your comfort zone, build and rely on a supportive social network. I wish you good energy and good health on the roads ahead, always. Keep in touch!

Dr. DiPirro:  CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2020!!!
